This perennial has long-lasting fragrant flowers that are attractive to bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, which will help pollinate your garden. The plants typically reach about 2-3 feet in height and are ideal for flower beds. It prefers a somewhat dry soil in full to partial sun and does not require fertilization. It is a good choice for cut flowers and potpourri. Possessing a sweet anise-like flavor, the raw or cooked leaves are used as a flavoring, added to salads or used for tea. It has reportedly been used by a number of Native American tribes such as the Cheyenne, Cree and Chippewa. A poultice of the leaves has been used traditionally to treat burns, while the tea has been used for colds and fevers. Many sources also consider it a cardiac tonic and a stimulant.
