Trichocereus Thelogonus is a columnar cactus in the San Pedro family that originates from Argentina. Thelogonus bears much resemblance to spachianus, and the two can be confused rather easily. This is mostly because the spines of thelogonus can be golden, but they also tend to be a little longer and more eyelash-like. The ribs of trichocereus thelogonus also highlight the areoles where the spines protrude in a more distinct manner. The spines seem to bulge at the areoles in contrast to the straighter ribs of spachianus. One might argue that thelogonus is the more aesthetic of the two because of its lshy spines and bulging areoles. Thelogonus is a bit harder to come by in cultivation than Trichocereus Pachanoi or Spachianus, but it does appear in its crested form in some garden centers. Thelogonus blooms white flowers with a pristine kingdom of stamens protruding from the center. Thelognus has medium-sized spines and is known in nature to branch at the base and lie along the ground. In cultivation, it is easy to make new cuttings from basal branches to expand one’s cactus collection. It has also been used as a grafting cactus like its other relatives.
