We have a limited amount of live akuamma plants grown from seed. These akuamma plants grow extremely slowly from seed, so beginning with one of these live plants will save you months of waiting for akuamma seeds to germinate and then slowly getting to this size. These akuamma plants are about 6″ in height with nice thick stems. It is likely your akuamma seedlings will grow faster after being transplanted to more soil. These akuamma plants have also been grown indoors under lights, and so they may very well grow faster in sunnier conditions with a bit more room. But they are generally quite hardy and easy to grow without much effort. We grew these from fresh akuamma fruit, which is costly to obtain and requires a bit of work to end up with clean seeds. A single fruit would cost more than one of our akuamma plants. But the germination from fresh akuamma seed is much better than from dried seed, and so we have these seed-grown akuamma plants while supplies last.

Picralima Nitida is a seed used in African herbal medicine primarily as a pain reliever.  Known as akuamma, the seed contains the alkaloids, akuammine and pericine as well as a number of related minor alkaloids.  Aside from analgesia,  picralima nitida seeds are also said to work as an anti-inflammatory, a skeletal muscle relaxant  and an anti-diarrheal. Akuammine is an indole alkaloid that is structurally related to yohimbine and mitragynine.  Akuammine is soluble in ethanol. Traditionally akuamma seeds were powdered and taken orally. But given the extremely bitter nature of the seeds, it is not surprising that pharmaceutical makers in Africa isolated the active compounds to produce capsules sold under the name Picap. The seeds are said to contain about 3.5%-4.8% akuammine.  We also offer akuamma seed, powdered seed and akuamma extract.

Growing Information:
Once sprouted, live akuamma plants relatively are easy to care for. Akuamma plants are not too sensitive to drying soil, and they do not seem to rot easily from a good watering. Keep the soil moderately moist as you might with an average houseplant. Use a fertile soil with good drainage, making sure to provide good light. Akuamma can be fertilized with each watering using an organic plant food.

SORRY, NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING ON LIVE PLANTS. SEEDS ARE AVAILABLE THOUGH.
