Kona coffee is a variety of Arabica from the Kona region of Hawaii whose beans produce a distinct taste with a lower acidity and caffeine content than typical Arabica beans. These coffee plants are in especially high demand. Kona is considered a specialty coffee. Growing Kona for commercial production requires a very specific weather pattern, but it may easily be grown as an ornamental houseplant with minimal care. Coffee likes a bit of shade, so coffee plants do well indoors or in a sunny window. Coffee is actually one of the easiest plants to grow if you just keep it watered and in a consistent amount of light. You can grow them outside too, but keep your plants out of direct sunlight as coffee plants can burn. Fertilize your Kona coffee plants with a high nitrogen fertilizer. Once your kona plant is of blooming age, you can start giving it extra doses of bonemeal to promote strong fruit and root development. You may already be aware that you can use spent coffee grounds in your garden to add that extra boost of nitrogen, and that means you can add it back to the base of your coffee plants. It is important that the grounds are spent since that will have lowered the acidity a bit. Another fun fact about growing coffee, is the fruits also contain some caffeine. They are both edible and nutritious with significnat quantities of antioxidants, polyphenals, Vitamin C, Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) and BDNF (Brain-derived Neuropathic Factor). The fruits can also be applied topically to support supple skin.. if you’re growing beans for yourself, you can eat the fruit right off the fresh coffee beans. Otherwise, you can remove the skins by pressing or stepping on the beans with an unused pair of footwear. After you’ve split the fruits by pressing. you can soak the pressed fruit in water, and they will float. The seeds will sink, and you can collect both parts of the fruit.

Our plants are seedlings grown from seed. Growing from seed can be slow and tricky. These seedlings will save you significant time and possible failure growing from seed for not much more than a pack of seeds. Multiple plants quantities may be sent in compots to save on shipping.
