Acacia Caroleae is a little-known cold and drought hardy acacia species related to acacias species such as maidenii, simplicifolia, longifolia and obtusifolia. We were given these seeds by a generous member of sharetheseeds.me who thought the genetics were worth perpetuating. It is sometimes called Carol’s Wattle or Narrow-leaf Currawang. Typically hardy to zone 9, acacia carolaea can reportedly handle temperatures dipping into the lower 20’s (Fahrenheit). These shrubs can reach 20 feet in height and are covered with yellow flowers when in bloom during the months of September and November. The seeds are tinier than most other acacia species, and they are long and skinny. Germination can be enhanced by smoke treatment.
